Live Our lives, Not Someone Else’s

Ever wonder why Therapists, Psychologists, Police Officers and Doctors can do what they do without going completely off the deep end? It is because they, the successful ones anyway live their lives and not the lives of their clients, victims, or patients. They disassociate from the person they are serving in order to keep from getting caught up in an emotional undertow. USHUD, as a professional real estate agency is not too different than the above mentioned professions as moving house is one of the most stressful things someone can do in their lives. Moving homes is up there with the death of a loved one and a divorce when it comes to generating stress. If we don’t appreciate that buying or selling a house is an emotionally charged situation we are likely to get sucked into our clients emotional vortex without even knowing it.

Our clients need us to stay emotionally detached so that our vision is not blurred by ego, frustration or any other emotion that could impact our logical thought process. This by no means is meant to indicate that we are not to like or care about our clients any more than a doctor is supposed to. Like doctors we need to remain someone distant from the situation while being as human as possible. Like doctors and the Hippocratic oath we are supposed to first do no harm.  A frantic or panicked life guard is as about as helpful as an angry or frustrated UHUD real estate agent. We need to do whatever it takes to not allow the many personalities that we touch every day from rubbing off on our own personality as they are in the same situation as the next client is likely to be in and we should be learning from our experiences and not duplicating the experiences that we could have avoided.

We have all seen the cool as a cucumber real estate professional that seemed to never get agitated or flustered. The one that calmed the situation down, not by being harsh or making ultimatums but by providing a calmness to a situation that could have gotten ugly. The persons calm resolve kept the situation from escalating so that no one ever had to be put in a situation where someone was either rude or made an either or remark. This is the person we should all strive to be.

Negotiating real estate is not a “I win” therefore “You lose” situation. If it is? We are dealing with the wrong professional on the other side and we should be asking to work with their broker or another USHUD agent in their office. Negotiating conventional real estate is not what Donald Trump does. It is not what makes us more like a real estate mogul. It just gets the buyers and sellers in an uncomfortable situation that is better left alone. Negotiating is compromising not winning or losing. Leave Donald Trump at home and lets live our own lives.
